What you should know

This is one of my favourite wines (ever) – frothy, gently sweet, low in alcohol and brilliant at bringing a smile to everyone’s face.

I say frothy because technically they are classified as frizzante (a light bubble) rather than sparkling (spumante).

Moscato d’Asti is sweet without being sickly sweet, with a lick of fresh summer fruits and a bit of blossom.

Because of its, lower than most, alcohol its great for supping all day in the summer or rounding up a late summers evening.

Confusingly Asti Spumante is slightly different but still made from Moscato, the main difference is that Asti spumante is fizzier and higher in alcohol. Still nice though!

As the hip hop crowd shun Cristal they are moving to Moscato d’Asti and name checking it in their songs – if it’s good enough for Kanye…

Top tip – Make sure you are buying Moscato d’Asti (frizzante) – it’s not always available in supermarkets so head to a wine merchant or online.
