The entire Convivium and Bon Vivant’s companion team are committed to you succeeding at your New Year’s resolutions, so we’ve put together a wine and food matching to help you do this. It’s on the last day of January, by when you’ll definitely deserve a little reward…

This is a quick heads up
Along side my passion for wine, and the diversity and variety it brings, I’ve become increasingly interested in other drinks – and not just gin based cocktails! The growth in popularity of specialty tea is quite phenomenal, and it shares many similarities with wine… not least that people are now using both to cook with and make cocktails (can you see the theme here?).

It just so happens that it is National Chocolate Week and what better excuse to publish the beginnings of what I hope to be a rich and long journey into the world of chocolate and wine pairing.

To extend the Fringe spirit for another few days we’ve created a fringe-like fusion of wine, food and events, overlaying fringe shows onto the Winetubemap. Put it in the diary, Thursday 30th August.
We asked ourselves questions like… which wine matches best with stand up comedy? What would you pair street acts with? Is cabaret the hub of many genres? Are musicals red, white, rosé or fizz?

All aboard!
We are so excited to be launching Platform 1, our first live installation of the Winetubemap! Our stationmasters are the fabulous team at Vino Wines in Comiston Road, just along from Morningside station. They have very safe hands, and a whistle.
This is a sneak preview of the setup, the official launch is Saturday where we’ll be opening some bottles to celebrate and hope you can join us.

Thirsty Thursday’s are back!
Our Wine Tube Map taste sensations allow you to travel a section of our WTM sampling food and wine combinations at each station. This is not your normal wine tasting. Instead you get to navigate and explore a selection of wines in a relaxed and informal way, as you chat and sniff, swirl and swallow!

For our second WineTubeMap wine tasting event we headed along the Red Central Line. As the name suggests these are the big, bold reds you’ll find on winelists and wine racks all over the country. The tasting list included Rhône, Bordeaux, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Rioja and some serious food matches to go with them, you can’t get away with any old nibbles when it comes to these wines! As ever, the chef and I worked on the flavour combinations to make sure the food showed the wines off. What we ended up was spot on and delicious (not that I got a look in), thanks Chef!

Here we go again… Thirsty Thursday looming, and frankly with this very unfriendly weather I can’t wait to kick off the weekend with some fresh and fun food matches to go with some of my fave wines!

My guests looked a bit scared as they were ushered down a spiral staircase into a candle lit basement festooned in colour fabrics. I think they wondered what this circus like space had to do with wine tasting. Although the heady wafts of the house smoked duck, gruyere biscuits and honeycomb must have hit them as much as the colours did as they walked in.

We are delighted to announce our new WineTubeMap experiences! Like no other wine tastings, they are designed for people who love drinking wine, would like to more but don’t fancy going back to school to do it! In the basement of the Bon Vivant’s Companion – deli/wine shop and next door to one of Edinburgh’s favourite watering holes we take you on a journey of food and wine discovery using the WineTubeMap as the basis for your trip.
