Mas Miralda Cava

Posted on: December 23, 2011 by Nikki

I think it’s hard to find a decent cava, and actually you have to pay for the really decent stuff with the under £10 wines often either being terrible or on some kind of half price deal… So this wine from Asda is a real find! It ticks the boxes of fun and fizzy, it’s fresh tasting and a steal. Perfect for cocktails too!

El Portico Crianza

This is made by a great winemaking house in Rioja and it really doesn’t disappoint. It’s big and bold, with lovely deep flavours, lots of spice and a whiff of smoky vanilla.  What I really like is the refreshing crispness of the fruit which means you don’t get a heavy finish, instead you’re left just wanting more.  A definite partner for chunky meat dishes like duck and lamb.

Tesco Finest Ribera del Duero

I’ve got to say that Tesco sell a Ribera del Duero called Pago de los Capelanes and I think it’s great, but it’s over the budget so I’ve plumped for their Finest version and it’s fabulous value for money.  Often called an alternative to Rioja, I love the dark fruit and oak combination.
