Saint Clair Gewürztraminer Pioneer Block 12

Oh my word! This is such a lovely wine. It has the perfect balance of sweetness and light without really being either. The lovely thing about Gewürztraminer is that you get an intoxicating hit of aromatics – rosewater and turkish delight – followed by the flavours of a fruit salad and then a tingle of acidity to finish.  Sounds a bit much maybe, but it isn’t, and particularly not this one which has just the right level of everything so it’s not too overpowering.

Whenever you see the St Clair name you can be reassured what’s in the bottle will be better than good and this is no exception.

Gewurz is a great match for spicy and smoked foods (I particularly like it with smoked mackerel) and with a cheese board. So basically whenever.

Coulée d’argent Vouvray sec

Vouvray – nectar.

This is a deliciously subtle wine with a lovely texture.  Creamy but not overpowering. It has a pear like quality, in both flavour and how it feels in your mouth, with a touch of honey and the freshness of spring.

One of those wines where it looks and tastes like you’ve spent more than you have!

Chenin Blanc has a great structure for food matching, good acidity and enough body to hold its own. This one particularly, great with grilled mackerel fillets and apple sauce or a late summer potato salad.

I had forgotten about this beauty! Riper than a lot of Sauvignon Blanc with tropical fruit flavours alongside the classic SB character. Crisp, zesty, and easy-drinking this should be in stock in your fridge at all times. Ignore at your peril!

Great on its own, good with a variety of dishes, particularly in this fab weather and perfect for parties…

Oeil de Perdrix

It’s pretty tricky to find a good quality pink champagne without spending a lot but this one hits the spot. It’s a light and fresh style but doesn’t miss out on those lovely fruit flavours and a characteristic whiff of yeast that shows the quality. Enjoy it as an indulgence on a dark winters night and think of spring!
